Implement breadcrumb links for visitors and search engines
As mentioned in Yoast’s The Definitive Guide To Higher Rankings For WordPress Sites, breadcrumbs are good for two things:
- They allow your users to easily navigate your site.
- They allow search engines to determine the structure of your site more easily.
If search engines understand the structure of your website, they can include additional links for visitors right from within the search results. In Google, breadcrumb links look like this:
Apart from possible SEO benefits, I’ve always liked breadcrumbs as a website visitor and always include this type of navigation in the websites and themes I design. If you land on a blog post and you like the content, it is easy to link up a level and see other posts in the same category.
